On Tuesday, the singer hit the town – without her wedding ring – for a quick bite at Da Mikele in Tribeca. Her companions? Her adorable 3-year-old twins with estranged husband Nick Cannon, Moroccan and Monroe.
The mom, 45, enjoyed salad and gelato with her kids and appeared perfectly content despite her recent separation from Cannon, 33.
"They seemed happy and like they were having a good time," an onlooker tells PEOPLE.
Carey's Instagram tells a similar story.
On Wednesday, she shared a happy shot of her with daughter Monroe, captioning the image "#MyHeart."
Meanwhile, Cannon hosted Tuesday night's America's Got Talent without his wedding ring on.
As of last week (before the news of their split went public), he was still wearing his band.
Their marriage "has been bad for a while," an insider told PEOPLE, adding that Cannon "has been staying in hotels."
On Aug. 22, a rep for Carey told PEOPLE that the singer "is focusing on her children and her upcoming tour."
