"She's in good physical condition and receiving excellent care," Marcie Moriarty, the chief prevention and enforcement officer for the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, tells PEOPLE.
The puppy, named Sade after the famous British singer, has become something of a "celebrity" herself after the incident at a Vancouver hotel, according to Moriarty.
Disturbing footage of the elevator attack on the Doberman went viral this week, after a security tape depicting a man kicking and strangling the frightened pup was leaked to the press.
The man, identified as Centerplate CEO Desmond Hague, says he was taking care of Sade for his friend at the time of the incident in July. Hague now faces charges of animal cruelty and was ordered to pay $100,000 and do 1,000 hours of community service to animal charities to keep his job.
Since the incident, Sade has been under the care of the SPCA and Moriarty, who says she has not yet decided whether the puppy will be returned to her owner.
"There will be a good outcome for Sade, no matter what," promises Moriarty – even if that means she's adopted by a new family.
