Stepping out publicly for the first time since news broke that she obtained a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop, the Modern Family actress was all smiles as she partied with friends at the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party on Friday.
"Her mood was cheerful," an onlooker tells PEOPLE. "She looked like she was having a great time dancing and mingling with friends."
One of the last to leave the party, Hyland, 23, showed off her patterned Donna Karan runway dress to friends and was spotted snapping pictures with pals. She also mingled with her TV siblings Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould before heading out for the night.
In court documents filed on Sept. 19, the actress alleged that Prokop, 24, verbally abused her and exhibited violent behavior throughout their five-year relationship.
"We love Sarah, and that's the biggest thing," Winter told reporters on the carpet about supporting her onscreen big sister.
