Tom Selleck Has Not Named His Mustache (But We Don't Think He'd Mind If You Have)

Tom Selleck may have one of the most famous mustaches in Hollywood (we’d say he’s tied with this guy for tops), but he doesn’t really take his facial hair that seriously. The 69-year-old actor (yep, Magnum P.I. is pushing 70 and still looking amazing) is featured in GQ magazine’s debut Age Issue and opens up about his iconic mustache.

First, things first: He’s never nicknamed the ‘stache (we know you’ve always wondered). “It’s coming back again, isn’t it? It was out,” the star muses of his distinctive facial hair style, adding that he doesn’t mind being viewed as the “godfather” of mustaches.

His advice for young men trying to grow one? “Go through puberty. Very important,” he jokes. “I don’t know, I know guys… Ashton Kutcher told me — I did a movie with him, I played his father-in-law — and he was joking; he said, ‘I can’t grow one.’ Part of that’s genetic. You either got it or you don’t.”

As for his milestone 70th birthday, the Blue Bloods star said it’s made him reflect more on his career.

“Yeah, 50 is one of those numbers. As is 60, as is 70,” he shares. “Well, I think the danger is, you can’t do it all. People say, ‘I don’t want to have any regrets.’ I don’t have. I’ve had bad breaks, and it was pretty tough getting to a level where I actually made a living in the business. It was pretty tough getting taken seriously. In the era I was growing up, a six-foot-four guy who looked like an old-fashioned leading man wasn’t getting any work. But I have a hunch it was tough for Dustin Hoffman, so there are crosses to bear.”
