Lady Antebellum's leading lady Hillary Scott has long been a fan of romance author Nicholas Sparks, especially the film made from his tearjerker novel, The Notebook.

So when filmmakers asked for the band to write a song for a new film based on the Sparks novel The Best of Me, it was a no brainer.

"To be able to write for one specific thing and to put ourselves into the story, because we really try to write from our own personal experience, was really cool," Scott says. "It's a really special, sweet story."

The film follows the storyline of high school sweethearts, played by James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan, who reunite after 21 years and realize their young love remains strong. And Lady A's new song "I Did With You," is part of the film's soundtrack, set for release Oct. 7.

Putting it together was a new experience, says bandmate Dave Haywood. "They sent us the script to the entire movie pretty much," he says. "We've never really had that much of a story sent to us. It was fun to follow different scenes of the movie and put that in the song. It was such a cool opportunity."

Even though being a part of the movie business marked a huge accomplishment for the trio, it was the romance of the storyline that touched them the most.

"The song is about when you know that someone is the one – you know," says Charles Kelley of the tune, written with their frequent songwriting collaborator Monty Powell.

"Whenever you find your soul mate," adds Scott, "there are parts of them that you wish you could have as well and the two of you bring out the best in one another."

Check out a preview of the band's video for the song below. The Best of Me opens in theaters nationwide on Oct. 17.
