Biggs, 36, took to his Twitter page to offer some of his signature dark humor that spurred outrage in the wake of reports that the airline was shot down over the Ukraine.
"Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flyer miles?" he wrote in a message that has since been deleted after his followers let him know that it was in poor taste, reports Time .
At first the Orange Is the New Black actor railed against his followers for being overly sensitive, telling his fans they didn't have to follow his feed and using several expletives to fire back, CNN.com reports.
Only later did Biggs admit he was wrong, firing off a series of serious Tweets that offered an apology.
"People were offended, and that was not my intent. Sorry to those of you that were," he wrote. "This is obviously a horrible tragedy, and everyone – including myself – is sad and angry about it. Sending positive thoughts to the victims and their families."
Biggs added: "P.S. No one is making me send these tweets – I simply understand that my comments might come off as insensitive and ill-timed."
The controversy is a déjà vu for the actor. In March, after a Malaysia Airlines plane went missing with 239 people on board, the actor likened it to a plotline on The Bachelor.
"Nikki is looking for Juan Pablo to say 'I Love You.' She'd have better luck looking for Malaysian Airlines Flight 370. #TheBachelor," Biggs wrote at the time.
