Fashion is always evolving – orange was the new black, but now vintage black-and-white stripes are in season.

A sheriff in Michigan says the Netflix hit Orange Is the New Black has made orange jumpsuits too trendy in his community, so inmates at Saginaw County Jail will now wear uniforms with broad horizontal stripes, TIME reports.

"Some people think it's cool to look like an inmate of the Saginaw County Jail with wearing all orange jumpsuits out at the mall or in public," Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel told The Saginaw News and MLive.com.

"We do have our inmates out sometimes doing work in the public, and I don't want anyone to confuse them or have them walk away."

Although the main characters on the show wear beige uniforms (orange is only worn by new prisoners or those in transit), Federspiel is convinced the series, which has been nominated for 12 Emmys, "lends empathy to inmates" and has made it "cool to wear orange," though he does admit that he noticed the color trend before the series began, he tells USA Today .
