In response, the survivor's family released a statement.
"Our family fully supports the District Attorney’s Office in their prosecution of this case. However, our daughter and our entire family continue to focus on both her physical and emotional healing," it states.
"She continues to amaze us in her ability to persevere and move forward – taking one day at a time. Much of our strength comes from knowing that there is so much 'good' coming from so many people, and we continue to witness this firsthand from the compassion given to our little girl from around the world."
On May 31, Morgan Geyser and Anisa Weier allegedly walked into the woods near their Waukesha, Wisconsin, home with their friend, whose identity has been protected, after a sleepover. Hours later, the pair were charged as adults for attempted murder. Their bond has been set at $500,000 each.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel , the girls' attorneys are expected to bring up the issue whether they could knowingly waive their rights against self-incrimination. Their lawyers also continue to pursue moving the girls' case into juvenile court.
Meanwhile, the unidentified girl continues to heal at home and thanks the public for its continued support on the family's Facebook page.
