The Travel Channel has postponed Man Finds Food – slated to premiere Wednesday – after the show's star exploded at Instagram followers over a controversial hashtag.

Adam Richman, 40, hosts many of the network's successful programs, including Man vs. Food and Best Thing I Ever Ate. But the TV personality caused a social media stir last week when he captioned an Instagram selfie "#thinspiration," a term used on websites promoting anorexia and bulimia.

When activists pointed out the word's dangerous meaning, Richman lashed out, according to screenshots captured by blogger Amber Sarah.

"Seriously grab a razor blade & draw a bath. I doubt anyone will miss you," he reportedly wrote in the exchange.

His Instagram account is now private.

Richman released an apology to ABC News on Tuesday.

"I've long struggled with my body image and have worked very hard to achieve a healthy weight," he said in the statement. "I'm incredibly sorry to everyone I've hurt."

The foodie recently celebrated his 70-lb. weight loss by posing naked for Cosmopolitan U.K. 's July issue. And in December, he penned a piece for Men's Health about his weight loss, writing: "I went in for a checkup, and when my doctor had me stand on a scale, even he was surprised. Seeing that number (which I'll take to the grave) was a turning point. I knew I needed to make a change."
