The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with Prince George
At just 3 months old, Prince George hit all his royal marks in a series of intimate photos shot just after his christening on Oct. 23. But the little heir also has no trouble making himself heard.
His maternal grandmother, Carole Middleton, "did say he has a nice pair of bellows on him – a good set of lungs!" Middleton family friend Martin Fidler tells PEOPLE in this week's cover story.
His smitten grandparents "are spoiling him rotten," adds Fidler.
But it was the bond with his parents, Prince William and Princess Kate, both 31, that was most evident during the historic christening day.
Says maternity nurse Sarah Dixon, who has worked with foreign royals and friends of the royal couple: "They are obviously very astute to his needs."
