We had our suspicions (see: uncharacteristically roomy dresses here, here and here) but we also knew that if Kerry Washington wanted to keep something to herself, she would (hello, secret wedding). Well, the cat’s out of the bag: the actress is indeed pregnant! We don’t know what that will mean for her Scandal plotline, but what we do know is that we’re in for some classy maternity style on the level of Duchess Catherine‘s.
So what will PEOPLE’s Best Dressed Woman of 2013 wear to accommodate her growing bump? She’ll have no shortage of designers clamoring to make her custom items, but we rounded up a few ready-to-wear pieces she can add to her closet ASAP.

Our first pick is a nod to the crisp caped trench that had everyone buzzing in the Scandal season 3 premiere. This coat is also stark white and Burberry, but the swingy silhouette is more forgiving — she can get it in her current size and wear it both throughout the pregnancy and after, without sacrificing an iota of chic. Next, a print mini from one of her favorite designers, Stella McCartney, which will look adorable with skinny jeans (belly band and all) and heels — and just as cute without post-pregnancy.
And because Washington’s red carpet moments are always buzzworthy, we figured it wasn’t too early to start thinking awards season. This vermillion Monique Lhuillier will be perfect for a glowing mom-to-be; plus, the modified empire silhouette can accommodate a baby bump and the lace neckline will modestly highlight enhanced cleavage. Finally, since Washington told PEOPLE she was “having a Giambattista Valli moment,” we picked a piece by the designer that reminds us a bit of her pretty Golden Globes dress (but with an adjustable belt) that will be party-perfect for any of the many pre-Globes events she’ll attend.
