Cameron Diaz doesn't feel pressured by convention – if she gets married to boyfriend Benji Madden, it won't be because that's what's expected of her.

"I'm not looking for a husband or marriage or not not looking for that stuff," she tells Marie Claire in its November issue. "I'm living and not thinking what I should or shouldn't be doing with my life."

The actress, who has said before that she doesn't see kids in her future, doesn't seem to be ruling out anything just yet.

"We live in a society where everyone has kids, so they want other people to have kids. There is this culture that says celebrities are supposed to be just like us, so people think, 'I have children, why doesn't she?' But I'm not going to do something because it's expected," Diaz tells the magazine.

"If a family happens, then it happens. If children come to me, then I would do that, but I'm not someone who feels like she has to do something because it's expected."

Diaz, 42, and Madden, 35, have been linked since May.

The happy couple sparked engagement rumors Wednesday after Diaz showed off a sparkling ring at the Academy's Hollywood Costume luncheon.

Reps for both stars have not commented.
