The country singer was badly injured during a performance on Friday night when a concertgoer threw a beer can at the stage that struck him in the face.
The incident took place at MulletFest in Niceville, Florida, just as Lynch was finishing up his cover of Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places."
"I was walking down the catwalk and just wham, out of nowhere this beer can just nailed me in the face," Lynch, 29, tells PEOPLE exclusively, "It was a completely full can and it felt like a baseball had hit me."
While Lynch didn’t see who threw the can, fans immediately began pointing the person out and a small brawl ensued, though the perpetrator was not apprehended.
Despite blood gushing from his wound, Lynch says, "We finished the show out like we always do. It was just a little bloodier than usual."
After the set, Lynch was taken to an emergency room where doctors were able to stem the bleeding. But the singer says this won’t slow him down.
Promoting his upcoming single "Hell of a Night" – which he says takes on a whole new meaning following this incident – Lynch will hit the stage again in Alpharetta, Georgia, on Saturday.
"The moral of the story is don’t throw beer cans period," says Lynch. "It’s not cool."
