"I should get two more dogs," the American Idol alum joked to PEOPLE by phone Friday while exclusively confirming her latest big news – that she's partnering with W Hotels Worldwide and the Human Rights Campaign for their "Turn It Up for Change" initiative supporting LGBT rights.
"I got a dog and named it Oscar, and then I won my Oscar. And then I got a dog and named it Grammy, and then I won my Grammy," Hudson said of her two Pomeranian pals. "So I think I should get some dogs and name them Emmy and Tony – and it'll give me good luck, and I'll win … [They're] like my good luck charms."
Joking aside, the singer-actress, 33, says she is excited to explore other avenues in entertainment, noting, "I would love to do television and theater."
Something else Hudson's on board with? A Sex and the City threequel – not that she can confirm whether or not it's happening. "I don't know much," she says of the rumored reboot. "But that would be nice. And Louise From St. Louis will be ready."
For now, the singer, who's hot off promoting her new album JHUD, keeps busy with her son David Otunga Jr., 5, who she says is turning into quite the ladies' man!
"He is hilarious. [The other day] he was like, 'Mommy, is it OK if I have a girlfriend?' I was like, 'Oh, it's that time already!' " Hudson says of her son with fiancé David Otunga. "He says, 'Okay, I have this girl I like. But I'm thinking about it, and I want to take her to all my parties, and I want to bring her home, and then I want to take her out of the country on an airplane.' Not to another state but out of the country. I was like, 'OK, this is my child.' "
But honestly, Hudson says motherhood has changed her for the better.
"With being a parent comes more maturity and more awareness of what's going on," she says. "Also, it's changed me from a creative standpoint, because he's so creative in like every way, which makes me realize how much it's in me if it's in him, in a way."
With his mom's artistic chops, can we expect her little man as a feature artist on any albums soon?
"I actually did put him on a track, [but] that didn't make the album," Hudson says. "He's at the beginning of the song 'Whatever Makes You Happy,' singing, 'If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.' But it didn't make the album, unfortunately."
As for joining up with W and the HRC for monthly music events benefitting the LGBT community, the singer says it was a natural fit. "I'm very connected to the gay community, and it's something I'm passionate about," she says. "It only makes sense. This is my way of returning it."
A portion of proceeds from downloads of Hudson's "I Still Love You" remix single will go to the "Turn It Up for Change" campaign.
