Actress Misty Upham may have been under a lot of stress prior to her disappearance on Oct. 6.

A source tells PEOPLE, "The only trouble I ever felt was stress over lack of money to keep up with what she felt she needed to in Hollywood."

Upham, 32, who recently played a housekeeper in August: Osage County and also completed filming alongside Jennifer Aniston in the upcoming Cake, was also struggling to make ends meet.

"She was doing everything she could to make it, but there were times she couldn't even make her own rent," says the source.

Upham was last seen leaving her Auburn, Washington, apartment last Sunday. Her father, who initially filed a missing persons report, claimed in a statement that she had an unspecified "medical condition."

"I always worried about her," says the source. "She's an amazing person. I think she just had trouble trying to keep up with Hollywood. She's always gone against the grain."
