Oscar de la Renta has died, ABC News reports, citing a family source. He was 82.
The American designer had been battling cancer for eight years and named a new creative director for his brand just last week.
Born in the Dominican Republic in 1932, de la Renta moved to Madrid at 18 to study painting. After discovering fashion, he worked for Balenciaga and Lanvin before launching his own label in the 1960s.
Dressing numerous first ladies and countless celebrities over his 50-year career, de la Renta most recently designed Amal Clooney's wedding gown.
She told PEOPLE last month, "He's such an elegant designer and such an elegant man."
More to come...
