But at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, when Rachel was in labor, and Ben put the pedal to the metal to get to the hospital in time for baby, police interference was the last thing they needed.
Officers in Fort Dodge, Iowa, tried to pull over the couple's SUV for going about 30 miles per hour over the speed limit, WHOTV reports, but Rachel told Ben not to stop.
"I think I was screaming, 'Oh, dear God, we can't have the baby in the car,' " the mother-of-four said.
The pair tried calling 911 to alert police to their situation, but to no avail.
"I know I was [a] crazy lady screaming it into the phone," said Rachel.
Police ended the 15-mile chase by placing spikes in the road, causing all of their tires to go flat. The couple was then ordered to the ground and held at gunpoint. "I was in the middle of a highway, having contractions, with guns pointed at me," Rachel said.
But police realized the emergency and escorted the couple to the hospital, where Hazel, 10 lbs., made an appearance an hour later. "She's doing really well right now," Rachel said.
No charges have been filed against the couple, but Manson, Iowa, Police Chief Tom Ritts told WHOTV that it's a good idea to call ahead in situations like this.
