With the World Series approaching, San Francisco radio stations 104.5 KFOG and 96.5 KOIT are pitching in to help the Giants keep a clear head going into the big games. How?
Both stations are banning Lorde's hit "Royals" until the World Series ends.
The connection is actually stronger than just name alone: Lorde told VH1 last year that a National Geographic photo of a Royals player autographing baseballs sparked a fixation on the word itself and, thus, the song.
96.5 KOIT says its ban was spurred by listeners, who wrote in questioning its Frisco loyalty after they heard the tune on the station. "Our listeners told us to do it, so we did it," KOIT program director Brian Figula said on the station's website.
Whether or not Kansas City has responded by banning They Might Be Giants from its airwaves has yet to be determined.
