Saturday Night Live's Jan Hooks Has Died at 57

Jan Hooks, who was best known as a cast member on Saturday Night Live , has died at the age of 57.

The actress and comedian, who also starred in Designing Women, passed away on Thursday, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.


Hooks joined the cast of SNL in 1986, where she worked alongside Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman. She did impressions of people including Sinéad O'Connor, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hillary Clinton, and was one half of the Sweeney Sisters with Nora Dunn.


She left the show in 1991 to replace Jean Smart on Designing Women and was nominated for an Emmy for playing Vicki Dubcek on 3rd Rock from the Sun. She also memorably played a tour guide at the Alamo in Pee-wee's Big Adventure.


Hooks most recently appeared as a guest star on 30 Rock playing Jenna's mom, Verna.
