For all his brilliance, Stephen Hawking has famously admitted: "I'm no better than anyone else at understanding what makes people tick, particularly women."

In this exclusive clip from the film The Theory of Everything , which portrays Hawking's relationship with his first wife, Jane, it's evident that women are a mystery to the budding scientist.

"You've leaped to a … that's a false conclusion," Hawking, played by Eddie Redmayne, stammers in response to Jane's (Felicity Jones) admission that she loves him.

But a sweet kiss brings him around in the end, as Jane cleans his glasses and symbolically gives him a new view of the world.

Watch the scene below from the film, which is due out Nov. 7.
