The Emmy-winning actor, 57, is rumored to have been cast as Lex Luthor, Superman's evil nemesis, in the much-discussed 2015 sequel to this summer's Man of Steel, according to information first published by Cosmic Book News .
Cranston and studio Warner Bros. have not commented on any reports.
The recent casting of 41-year-old Oscar winner Ben Affleck as Batman – opposite 31-year-old Henry Cavill's Superman – set social media on fire last week and was something akin to Kryptonite to many diehard fans.
The purported hiring of Cranston, who has memorably portrayed Walter White – a high-school chemistry teacher turned crystal-meth kingpin on the AMC series now in its final season – has, however, already been met with a better response than Affleck's.
"Cranston truly is a dream casting for Luthor," Cosmic Book News quoted a source as saying.
One excited fan has even created a Man of Steel teaser trailer featuring Cranston. So far, it has garnered nearly one million views.
According to the Hollywood Reporter , the teaser was culled from scenes from Man of Steel, Breaking Bad, Daredevil and The Dark Knight.
