"Twerk," which has been around for about 20 years, officially shook its way into the mainstream vernacular – and onto the databases of the Oxford English Online Dictionary.
To reflect the ongoing changes in technology, social media lingo and fashion, Britain's Oxford Dictionaries will officially include the hip-thrusting dance move as a part of its quarterly update, along with some other buzzworthy phrases such as selfie, girl crush, FOMO (fear of missing out), jorts and derpy. Srsly!
At a loss for words? Don't fret. Here's a quick guide on how to incorporate the newest dictionary additions into your everyday vocabulary.
1. Twerk (verb), dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.

Usage: Despite backlash for her sexually charged dance moves at Sunday's VMAs, it looks like Miley Cyrus "can't stop" and "won't stop" twerking anytime soon.
2. Selfie (noun) a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website

Usage: After posting a smartphone photo of his ridiculously ripped body on Instagram, Nick Jonas said of the selfie, "I never do this but … Healthy living and fitness update. Post workout picture. #diabeticinshape #2.0."
3. FOMO (fear of missing out) (noun) anxiety that an exciting or interesting event may currently be happening elsewhere, often aroused by posts seen on a social media website
Usage: She's busy enough hosting her own talk show and managing her kids' careers, yet Kris Jenner still turns up at almost every red carpet event in Hollywood – does she have a serious case of FOMO?
4. Girl Crush (noun) an intense and typically non-sexual liking or admiration felt by one woman or girl for another

Usage: Her cool wardrobe, her candidness, her love of Mean Girls – no wonder Jennifer Lawrence has become our ultimate girl crush – the best friend we've always dreamed of having.
5. Jorts (noun) denim shorts
Usage: Denim cutoffs have long been a staple for women, but Taylor Lautner and his hunky wolf pack pals took jorts to the next level in Twilight and never looked better – of course, we're really only looking at their abs.
6. Derp (exclamation) (also herp derp) used as a substitute for speech regarded as meaningless or stupid, or to comment on a foolish or stupid action

Usage: Though Britney Spears usually brings out her best smile for the cameras, her derp face was in full force while judging contestants on The X Factor.
