FOUND FRUIT
Both the name of the episode and the mystifying event that occurred, "The Pineapple Incident" refers to a season one plotline in which Ted (Josh Radnor) awakes from a night of heavy drinking to discover a brunette woman in bed with him and the tropical fruit on his nightstand. Though the woman's identity is later unearthed (Trudy), the pineapple's origins never are, prompting Marshall (Jason Segel) to exclaim near episode's end, "Damnit, Trudy, what about the pineapple?"
