Jim Parsons's March 1 hosting stint on Saturday Night Live addressed his Big Bang Theory fame head-on with a musical number called "I'm Not That Guy."
But how successful was Parsons's attempt at breaking away from his iconic role as Sheldon Cooper?
Aidy Bryan stole this skit from Parsons with her performance as "Tonker Bell," Tinker Bell's half-sister. Parsons's diction and delivery never really waver from Sheldon Cooper's, but he gave it the old college try.
The premise of this sketch: Precocious child actors tackle roles from this year's Oscar-nominated films. Parsons's pint-sized thespian assumes George Clooney's role in Gravity – his big joke, "Aw man, I hate space," probably won't replace any of Sheldon's zingers in popular memory any time soon.
Beck, making his seventh appearance on SNL, was the evening's musical guest. Here he performs a beautiful rendition of "Wave," from his new album Morning Phase, backed by a full string section.
How successful do you think Parsons was at setting himself apart from Sheldon? Let us know in the comments below.
