The show's cast, which includes Jenna Elfman, and crew have adopted an 8 week old yellow Labrador retriever named Guf (an abbreviation for the show), and will sponsor his guide dog training until he can be paired with a visually impaired person, reports Today . The pooch will be cared for by a "puppy raiser" until the age of 18 months, at which time he'll begin training at New York's Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind.
The decision to adopt Guf is a personal one for the show's team, inspired by executive producer DJ Nash, whose own father is visually impaired and inspired the sitcom. "Getting a guide dog didn't just change Dad's life," Nash said in a statement, "it changed our family's life."
Growing Up Fisher airs Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
