But for all mankind's mind-blowing achievements, we've never had a sports movie that truly spoke to the geeks among us.
Until now.
The new documentary Mudbloods (available on iTunes here), showcases a subculture of athletes who play Quidditch, the Wizarding World sport detailed in J.K. Rowling's beloved Harry Potter series.
In the geektastic trailer for the film, Quidditch players discuss the challenges they face in the Muggle world.
"We get two questions: 'How does the snitch work? And how do you fly?' " says one devotee of the sport.
"The people who don't really understand that this is a joke," laments another, "are the other athletes on campus."
Like Harry, Ron Weasley and Draco Malfoy before them, the real-world Quidditch players "ride" brooms and score using hoops located at either end of the field.
A rugby-esque contact sport, "No one can really call us nerds when we're out there," declares one player, before adding, "They do anyways."
(Somewhere, Snape's heart just grew three sizes.)
"It's actually better to be seen as a little weird, and to be happy," says another Quidditcher, "than to not be the person you are."
Dumbledore himself couldn't have said it better.
