Nature is crazy.

That's not exactly a top-notch scientific observation, but we're still reeling a little from watching this bird imitate the sound of a laser battle.

The lyrebird is an Australian bird known for its impressive powers of imitation. They've been recorded doing their uncanny renditions of all kinds of incongruous sounds, like a chainsaw and a car alarm, but this video might take the cake.

Wen Hao Lee, a student from Malaysia, shot this video at the Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, Australia. The lyrebird starring in it has a fairly impressive selection of noises at his disposal, but the laser gun noise he debuts while fanning his tail at the camera is probably our favorite.

So here's the real question: Is he trying to fight the camera … or mate with it?
