Princess Kate's Perky Pony Is the Perfect Hairstyle for Your Holiday

Kate Beckinsale isn’t the only famous Brit perfecting her ponytail game. Princess Kate stepped out with a pretty, pulled-back style Tuesday while fundraising on behalf of her charity in Norwich, Norfolk, and it’s giving us some Thanksgiving day hair inspiration. (And also getting us psyched for her upcoming visit to the United States.)

Kate skipped her usual blown-out waves for a loose pony with volume in the crown and undone, slightly-messy texture in the back. (Yes, royals can do messy too.)

And we’d like to think the expectant star did this herself (if you look closely, it’s not perfectly even in the front!), because we want to try out a similar style this holiday weekend. So we reached out to celeb hairstylist Sarah Potempa for some tips. Catch her rundown below:

Step 1: Smooth hair and add volume by bending your wrist while using a heated styling tool (Potempa’s Ceramic Styling Iron with blowout attachments is an editor favorite).

Step 2: Section hair from the top of the crown and back brush each section. Make sure to use hairspray to add volume to hair at root.

Step 3: Take hair from the crown and smooth into a ponytail, leaving the sides out.

Step 4: Create side part and brush side pieces over the ponytail. Secure with elastic over the first ponytail, this will keep volume on top while keeping the sides smooth.

Step 5: Spritz with hairspray (Potempa suggests Aussie’s Mega spray) to finish, leaving a long, lasting hold all day.
