Going with great news – rather than just a great performance – is the best way to start off Dancing with the Stars. To that end, Monday's installment killed it with the bulletin that oldie but goodie Tommy Chong made it for another week!

But Chong getting to stay meant that a (high-scoring) celebrity had to go. So it was a surprise when Lea Thompson – who looked stunning while performing some of her best dances – was named as the next hoofer to leave the ballroom.

"I just feel really great. I feel strong and I'm anxious to get back to my day job on Switched at Birth," Thompson said. "I love this man [Artem Chigvintsev] and he's a new pro and I think he did a great job with me."

Here's how the rest of the night played out:

Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson. The duo was smooth as silk in a cucumber cool foxtrot. "That's the way to kick off the quarter finals!" said judge Len Goodman. "You really channeled the sophistication of a bygone era," added judge Bruno Tonioli. Score: 37 out of 40

Tommy Chong and Peta Murgatroyd. The original stoner tripped during this otherwise charming and simple Viennese waltz. "From old geezer to another old geezer, you are my hero," chirped Goodman. Score: 29

Thompson and Chigvintsev. The actress looked as hot as one of the female pros in a sexy, showstopping samba. (And, as she reminded everyone, she is 53!) "You put the sin in syncopation," said Goodman. Score: 34

Bethany Mota and Derek Hough. Hough did what he did best – choreograph another gorgeous Viennese waltz for his very talented partner. "You threw yourself completely into the dance," said judge Carrie Ann Inaba. Score: 36

Sadie Robertson and Mark Ballas. The Duck Dynasty star remained a constant beat behind during their jumpin' jive that showcased Ballas's always mad skills. "For tall girls the jive is a really difficult dance, but I thought it was terrific," said Goodman. "You just lacked a bit of strength in your torso to keep it together," added Inaba. Score: 33

Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy. Despite a little slip-up with the pro's patent leather shows, he and the Pretty Little Liars actress pulled off a judge-loving quickstep. "To me that was the best dance of the night so far," said judge Julianne Hough. "It was a dance of such high quality," added Tonioli. Score: 38

Trios

Ribeiro and Carson. The actor picked up another young and gorgeous blonde and danced a perfect paso doble to uber-hit "Turn Down for What." "I can't say I was a fan of the song but I was real fan of that," said Goodman. Score: 40

Chong and Murgatroyd. Their silly samba featured the old comedian sandwiched between two "stewardesses" on Chong Air. Brilliant? "You have the look of a man who created the mile-high club!" said Tonioli. "I fly back to London tonight and I'm booking a ticket on Chong Air," added Goodman. Score: 28

Thompson and Chigvintsev. The actress was lodged between two gorgeous, bare-chested men in a perfectly angry paso doble. "You killed it!" said Inaba. Score: 36

Bethany Mota and Derek Hough. The YouTube star lucked out by getting pro Tony Dovolani in what was a terrific Argentine tango. "That was so dynamic and so powerful," said Inaba. "I thought the changes from Tony to Derek and back were seamless," added Goodman. Score: 38

Sadie Robertson and Mark Ballas. The reality star managed to shine with her glamorous foxtrot, despite having to mirror female pro Emma Slater. "That is the best trio of the night!" said Goodman. "Do you not feel like a million bucks because you did everything prefect," added Hough. Score: 40

Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy. The actress performed the upside-down splits in a tribal salsa. "That was so fun to watch," said Hough. "Janel, season 19, jungle queen!" added Tonioli. Score: 39
