Remembered as both an iconic Hollywood actress and a princess, Grace Kelly would have been 85 on Wednesday.
LIFE has a number of photos – some of which have never been published before – of Kelly and her husband, Prince Rainier III of Monaco. We're able to share a few with you here.
As LIFE writes, "The tale of the American movie star and Philadelphia native marrying the prince of a small, sensationally wealthy city-state was simply too perfect to ignore." The story's appeal obviously hasn't dimmed.
The royals' marriage was as much of a fairy tale as their wedding: Nine months and four days after they married, Grace gave birth to daughter Caroline, the first of the couple's three children. Grace and Rainier were married for 26 years – until she died in 1982 due to injuries stemming from a car accident.
The beautiful blonde was a "hands-on" mom, as her son Albert described her to PEOPLE, but she was also a style maven whose elegance, poise and aura of cool hasn't worn off over the years.

The prince, who never remarried and died in 2005, is buried beside his wife in the Grimaldi family vault, inside the cathedral where they wed.
