Jack O'Connell, who headlines Jolie's upcoming directorial effort Unbroken, amusingly thanked his "esteemed boss" while accepting the breakout actor award at the Hollywood Film Awards on Friday.
"Angelina, my esteemed boss, and good friend, her ladyship," the 24-year-old actor proclaimed while taking an exaggerated bow and waving his arm in her direction. "[Through] whose unconditional support and dedicated leadership I was capable of portraying our hero under her captaincy. So, Angelina, thank you."

In the film, O'Connell portrays real-life Olympian and POW Louis Zamperini, who developed a friendship with Jolie before his death in July.
During her introduction for O'Connell, Jolie talked about the arduous process of casting her leading man – and said Zamperini himself had offered his stamp of approval.
"I showed [that] audition tape to Louis, and he smiled," she said. "As a director, to have Jack in front of your lens is a gift. He makes every moment honest."
